People, Products & Purpose

Name with care!

Update: Apple now decided to call the new iPhone as “iPhone 3GS” (without a space between 3G and S)

The name of a product is super important. Names connect us to objects. The sound of a name brings up the picture of it in our mind. Sounds & names are key to our thought & communication.

This reminds me of a common issue facing the Indian community in USA (and possibly elsewhere) when a kid is about to be born into a family, the parents are searching for a name – it has to be short, sweet, modern, with a meaning  – but not easily pronounced and adapted to sound like something crazy.

Check out this cartoon on the new on the naming of ‘iphone 3GS’
